The purpose of the cutaway is to hide any mistakes that may have been made while shooting a shot they are also used to make scenes more interesting by adding fresh content to make scenes more appealing to the audience therefore making them watch the video for longer without being board of the same scene. Cutaways are also effective with showing the viewer more information and helping them visualise what information is being read to them. This is particularly effective and useful when the topic can be complex and or the reader is not clear enough eg speaking to fast. Therefore a cutaway will help audience understand what they are being told and can then make their own judgement.
