From the dates Monday the first of February to Sunday the seventh I set out creating my advert, i set this week out to complete the whole advert and editing process in order to keep on time and not get confused with anything else. As we are working from home and we don not have any access to the Adobe suit I decided to use Davincci Resolve 16. I chose this particular software as i have prior experience with the software from other projects I have worked on in the past in my own time. The software is fairly simple to use and was easy to understand when editing videos on it.
During the filming process (first half of the week) I recorded a few different activities that can be done at home that can make different people smile as this is what the advertisement is about. In order to film my scenes I used a DSLR camera and a tripod. I used a tripod as there was no moving shots that i needed to create, if there was a moving shot i would have used my gimbal in order to create smooth fast paced shots. I used a DSLR camera in order to have good quality shots which appear crisp and sharp to the audience.
The shots themselves there was a bit of variation in terms of shot types. I made use of mid shots and also over the shoulder shots aswell as close up and full shots. The use of the mid shots was to fill the frame and which used in conjunction with the shoulder level angle makes a nice composition for the viewer to see, it allows the viewer to see everything that is going on in the shot and focus' on the main subject in the shot.
The close up shots allow the viewer to see the main subject in greater detail and pickup on different texture types and also greatly improves quality. The use of the close up shot was to fill the frame which reduces the amount of unused space therefore being a better quality than if there was a lot of unused space.
The different shots had different people in them, this was because I sourced royalty free footage from a site called Pexels.com. However, this isn't a bad thing overall as it could be viewed on how different people in the community have responded to lockdown restrictions and shows how different people are coping with the rules, and shows what they are doing about it and still making the most of it. Therefore social distancing was not an issue during my recording which is safer for both me and the community.
For the background music I decided to use a fast paced percussion song which is copyright free in order to avoid any copyright claims on thee music track and ultimately on the advert itself. I decided to match the faster paced music with fast paced edits to make the advertisement match the track and also look a lot smoother. I recorded a few clips and managed to source a few clips which i could not recorded from a stock free footage site called pexels. This site helped massively as it allowed me to get my desired clips without any hassle.
The editing process was quite smooth as a whole this could be because of my previous experiences with Davincci Resolve 16 as this is my preferred software of choice when i am working on small projects at home, Therefore I know my way around the software and how to utilise most of the tools and options available to users of the software. In some aspects its remarkably close to premier pro in terms of the tools available and event the placement of some of the tools it is quite close to Premier pro which we would be using on campus. I decided in the end to not use to many transition effects this was because i wanted the music to carry the viewer through the advertisement and to not distract the viewer from the scenes themselves with any over the top transitions. other than that there was no effects or anything used this was to try keep it as close to real life as possible and not stray away from the true meaning on the documentary. While editing the shots to the music it was rather easy to sync them up to the music timing and have the clip change on the beat to satisfy the viewer and also to make the advertisement run a lot smoother overall. The editing was overall a simple task to do and was completed in 2 days in order to give me chance to look back and see if I needed to improve on anything and then that would give me enough time to make any improvements if necessary. There was no real issues that I encountered while making the advertisement I had a clear vision of what I wanted/needed to create and I think I did so successfully, if i was to get stuck on anything i would have looked on the internet to see if i could find out how to get around it but didn't have to during the making of this advertisement.
