Foley sound project Plan and research

A1.1 Explore and develop investigation skills for informing ideas

A1.2 Explore and develop problem solving skills.

With my project I hope to achieve an effective sound design for the video i have chosen. The purpose of the video is to promote the company in the video in this case a car valet company the aim of the video is to promote their brand so they can ultimately have more clients to work with.

The target audience for this project are people who are interested in getting their car cleaned professionally and to a high standard which is what the video portrays to them. With the development in the sound design for the video i hope to intrigue them into watching the full video and the sound will help them watch on as it will be something different which they may not have listened to before. The unique sound scape will draw the viewer into the video which will make them watch and and see what the company is capable of.

I hope to have a base line set so i know i will have a solid edit at one point in time, this will help as when i have a solid take i can then go on and make certain things better if they need for example polishing up and or changed for something that would fit the bill better. I hope this wont take too long time wise so i will have plenty time left over to make any changed that i feel necessary. With the use of free foley sound libraries i hope to keep budget to a minimum if not do it without spending any money. This is because i wont be making any money from it so ideally i wouldn't want to spend any money. The BBC has published their own free to use, royalty free foley sound library so this will be very useful budget wise. I could also source sounds from Youtube as long as they too are royalty free this is to avoid any copyright claims that would occur if it wasn't royalty free. I hope to be able to record most of the sounds i need on my own and not have to use many royalty free sounds through out the film. This is so it doesn't cause any complications that may occur when using others sounds.

For this project and from reviewing the clips i will need to source a variety of different sounds to fit each part of the clip, things ranging from brushing / scraping sounds to the sound of rain fall or water flowing in a stream. For this i will need to use a microphone to record it in good quality. From this i can use adobe Audition to clean up the audio before placing it into logic pro to fit it with the video clip. From research i have done i could replace some sounds which maybe hard to collect with simpler sounds which has the same desired effect but just be easier to gather, a key example of this is replacing a jet-wash with rain. They sound similar but rain is easier to record than a jet wash.

This is another clip i looked at. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL_nsjG1TUo) However i chose not to use it as i decided it was too short so didn't fit the brief idea. Also the fact that the clip is quite fast also didn't help in the choosing period. This is is because there would be changes in sound every couple of seconds therefore wouldn't get the full effect of a new soundscape.

Similarly with this clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyV2lpWffS4) i looked at, but decided not to use it as it too short in total length and doesn't fit the time limit i needed . Also some of the clips only lasted a seconds or less so trying to implement sound into this, cut it and time it would be very difficult to get accurate.

This clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ce_NyV1NhU) has good sound design and wouldn't have been too hard to mimic or redo the sound for the video. There is a good balance between music and sound but the only downside was the length of the video and how it was too small length wise.
